If you are looking for a psilocybin specific destination, you’ll probably find either our Journeys or one of the retreats out there. It’s almost exclusively the latter, as we currently find ourselves on a few different retreat websites, but no journey sites. Yet. So what’s the difference between our Journeys and their retreats, you may be wondering.
Here are 5 differences between what we offer and what you’ll find at a psilocybin retreat:
Retreats offer a lot of stillness in their programs. You can move, with things like yoga, dancing, short hikes, things like that. But they typically offer people coming in to offer their gifts to you there. If that’s more your style, you’d probably fare just fine at a retreat.
There is an obvious focus on movement on our Nature-Based Journeys. We have the ability, experience, guides, even permits, and insurance to take you to some incredible natural lands, and move through them.
The other part of this, outside of the beauty of the world you move through, is the movement that happens in your body. Your blood gets moving when you do. Your lungs fill with fresh, clean air. Your brain sees different things as you climb atop the hill and peer along the peaks. Your senses light up with the breeze and fresh air, splash of water on your skin, or the heat of the campfire after a long day. The Journey is about what happens within you as it is what happens around you.
Another more obvious differences between a Nature-Based Journey and retreats is the place where we spend our time. Now whichever you are doing, most psliocybin retreats will still take you to a “service center,” outside of the retreat center, which we also do for the legal psilocybin aspect. But for both the preparation and integration portions of our journey, you get to spend your time outside and in a tent while on a retreat you will spend more time in the center, including sleeping there.
Our journeys were designed with stunning rivers, mountains and waterfalls as the central aspect. The best features are often on public lands, as it’s rare to have even one of those features at a privately owned retreat center.
This is a matter of preference, and a lot of people may even prefer spending time in a beautiful building at first blush. But there is a hidden difference, especially if you are looking for that deep experience. Retreat centers, as nice as they are, are still human centered areas. The environment is controlled in a way to separate the human experience from that of the natural world. That’s essentially how we live the rest of our lives.
If you’re doing a Psilocybin Journey, part of what makes it so special is letting go of your everyday habits and mindset, connecting with something deeper, and exploring a different way of seeing life. Integration involves living into that. You put yourself in a position to do all of that on a nature based journeys. You’re in a place where the mystery gets to vibe with you on it’s terms.
A lot of the activities that we do on our journeys is similar to those at psilocybin retreats. Of course we have preparation, integration, as well as the psilocybin facilitation. We hold plenty of groups, offer yoga, have excellent food, a lot of the core stuff. And our guides offer a lot of exrtras, like breathwork, massage, and other offerings. But there are some important distinctions.
Retreats typically carry all kinds of incredible things, like singing bowls and other instruments, artwork, and have different facilities for different things. Meanwhile, we pack rafts, paddleboards, kayaks, and things of that nature. Our guides are comfortable supporting you outdoors, and can take care of you should anything happen.
Then there are the practices, and intention behind the space.
Our Journeys were built on the core concept of connection with nature as a pivotal part of the transformative process. Eric has been a river guide since college, worked in Wilderness Therapy, has a Master’s in Ecopsychology, went through a yearlong soulcraft immersion program, and more.
The guides offer you practices and activities that align with all of this, and the land, to really create deep connection with the gorgeous world we move through.
And, we’ll
Whether you’re going on a journey or retreat, you’ll be sharing your journey with other people. There are generally a couple of differences with our community than what you would find at a retreat center.
First, people are really trying to maximize the experience in these groups, evidenced by the fact that they are putting themselves in the best environment to do that. There’s not an over fixation on comfort. While we do make it far more comfortable than your average camping experience, it’s not glamping, and it’s certainly not the accomodations that are the main focus.
Also, moving though a challenging physical situation together creates better bonds and allows people to show their own skills. The focus on the shared journey helps bring people’s individual journeys into the group sphere better.
Of course we can’t talk about the community without including other beings, and they make their appearances too. From fish to birds to all kinds of four legged friends, plus the fungus, the plants and the trees, we encounter the larger community in it’s natural setting.
And even when you go back home we really make an effort to keep things connected and help you move forward with what you found on the Journey, not just so you transform yourself, but we continue to help each other and let the effects ripple throughout larger society.
When it comes down to it, there are a lot of retreats you can choose from, and you’ll probably enjoy them thoroughly, especially if they sounded like your thing while reading this. And if a retreat is more your style, then you should probably listen to that calling.
But, if you’re the kind of person who reads this and knows that there’s really no comparison for you, then you should get in touch. You already know something like this could very well change the course of your life and expand your sense of self, and the world.
